Acer launches the world’s thinnest laptop: the new Swift 7

In a slew of new tech announced by Acer this week, the company has also broken an unofficial record. Weighing in at a mere 8.98 mm thin, its new Swift 7 laptop is, according to the company’s internal surveys, the thinnest clamshell laptop in the world. The new Swift 7 is an always-connected device, running Windows 10 and is designed for mobility.

According to Jerry Kao, President of IT Products Business of Acer Inc:

We’re extremely proud to make the world’s thinnest laptop even thinner with the new Swift 7. Building on the engineering breakthroughs from the previous generation, the new Swift 7 steps up the game with an even slimmer chassis, powerful performance and always-on 4G LTE connectivity for professionals on the go.

The “powerful performance” mr. Kao speaks of comes courtesy of a 7th Gen Intel® Core i7 processor, and battery life is touted as being 10 hours. 256 GB of PCIe SSD storage offers plenty of room to keep important files at the user’s fingertips, while 8 GB of LPDDR3 memory keeps multitasking smooth and responsive. A fingerprint reader allows password-free and more secure sign-in through Windows Hello.

Chris Walker, Vice President of Intel Corp. stated that:

The next PC anyone buys should be a great PC – powerful to feed the newest, richest experiences all day long. Acer’s Swift 7 delivers on the performance expectation then ups the ante with built-in 4G LTE in an ultra-thin, stunning design. It’s the perfect PC for those who have things to do and create anywhere, at any time.

The Swift 7 is not only thin, but its also a thing of beauty. Its unibody aluminium chassis is both pleasing to the eye and gentle to touch, perfect for modern professionals seeking a sophisticated look. The display has also been upgraded from the previous model. The new Swift 7 now has a 14-inch full HD IPS screen, along with Acer Color Intelligence for lifelike clarity at every angle. Typing has never been easier thanks to the Swift 7’s backlit keyboard, but if that is not your thing, you can also use the Corning® Gorilla® Glass NBT™ touchscreen.

The Swift 7 isn’t the only device Acer has refreshed. Its Spin 3 (SP314-51) laptop – with durable 360° dual-torque hinge enabling it to function as a laptop, tablet, display – has also received a new model.  Now equipped with a powerful 8th Gen Intel Core processor, impressive storage options, and 12 hour battery life, it merges exceptional performance with portability. Sound quality comes courtesy of two front-facing speakers with Acer TrueHarmony technology. The Spin 3’s 14-inch display supports vivid imagery in Full HD with IPS technology, allowing on-screen content to shine through in exceptional detail.

Knowledge and power are simply two sides of the same question: who decides what knowledge is, and who knows what needs to be decided? In the computer age, the question of knowledge is now more than ever a question of government.
