Blizzard is one of the best names in terms of story telling. There is no denying that. Whether you enjoy playing their games or not, games like Diablo and Warcraft have such rich plot-lines and incredible cinematics that Blizzard has earned their title for master story tellers. With such a rich history and high bar already set, it must be intimidating to try match all future attempts against these. Never fear though, as it seems that Blizzard has brought in someone who has more than proved himself capable to lead the charge for future projects.
George Krstic has worked on projects such as League of Legends, Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series, Max Steel, Megas XLR and a host of other titles. Now he joins the team from Blizzard to head up their Story and Creative Development team. The position was previously held by James Waugh, who left last October to take up a position at LucasFilms as Director of Development. Many people had the position ear-marked for Chris Metzen, who was previously the Senior Vice President, Story and Franchise Development. You may know him more from his numerous voice acting roles including Thrall, Vol’jin, Orcs, Nefarian, Ragnaros and Hakkar the Soulflayer from the Warcraft series, the Skeleton King from Diablo or Bastion from Overwatch. He is also the man responsible for the origin of Soldier 76 in Overwatch, having written a comic about him before Overwatch even began development. Metzen unfortunately retired last September to spend more time with his family though, and now the mantle has passed to Krstic.
Krstic has quite the extensive Linkedin profile, including Senior Writer at Riot Games, Lead Writer at Hasbro, Executive Producer at Machinima and Supervising Writer at Blizzard. This will be his biggest test though, and I am sure he will bring us even more of the amazing stories that Blizzard has shown in the past. We wish him all the best in his time there.
