Far Cry 5 accidentally leaked by GameStop?

Ubisoft has been rather active of late, preparing for upcoming releases such as For Honor and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands. While they have a record or releasing sequels for their franchises such as Assassins’ Creed almost every year, there has been no news of them preparing for any upcoming sequels, instead focusing on original IPs instead. Well, that was until Irish site SG Gaming Info picked up a potential leak from GameStop.

Every so often GameStop sends out a list of upcoming releases, prices etc so fans can plan, budget and then throw themselves into financial debt because all their planning means nothing when the gameplay trailers come out. Among the list for the upcoming PS4 games there was one unexpected title: Far Cry 5. Ubisoft has had no official announcement of any new Far Cry games, so whether this is a major slip on the side of GameStop or just some sort of misunderstanding, we are not sure. SG Gaming contact the local GameStop to enquire about this, and they confirmed that the SKU code was indeed listed as Far Cry 5. In 2 separate emails listing the SKU the team got the reply  “Unfortunately we are out of stock of Far Cry 5 for the PS4 and can’t guarantee more stock will be made available again to us from the vendor”.

So it seems that this isn’t a simple typo on the list. This really does refer to some instance of a game titled Far Cry 5. At this stage Ubisoft has not returned comment so the game is as yet unconfirmed, but it will be interesting to see if there is any truth to the rumour. It wouldn’t be the first time that GameStop dropped the ball when it comes to keeping secrets, and the series has certainly been successful enough to warrant a future game. We will be sure to keep you up to date on any future developments as we find them out. The game is scheduled according to the list for a 26 November 2017 release date.
