February’s Free Games with Gold

Whether you’re single or tied down, February is the month of hot, sweaty passion. If you are not in a relationship, Game Arena has some ointment for your aching hearts that will fill the void this Valentine’s Day. Free games! You can expect a lot of groping and desperate pawing this month, as we become more intimate with our controllers than ever before. Objectophile humour aside, Microsoft has lined up some great games once again for Games with Gold, and we can’t wait to strip them down, and play each of them with fervour. Here are the 4 Xbox Valentine’s Day dates that you can get for free this February:

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

Imagine if you will, the following combination. If you put together the timeless classic Donkey Kong, and Han Solo running around the Falcon during an Imperial space battle, Lovers in a Dangerous spacetime would be the illegitimate 2D love child. Much like Valentine’s Day itself, this quirky platformer can be experienced alone, or with up to 4 people (provided your last name is Hefner). The plot is simple, and usually involves saving an assortment of animals from every level’s final boss which takes the form of an evil constellation. Hand-eye co-ordination is not the biggest of requirements, but the game can prove challenging at some points. Be sure to grab this if you and your partner are looking for an alternative to the “dinner and a movie” Valentine’s tradition and form a new one; playing co-op games in your tighty whities.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime will be available for download from 1 – 28 February.

Project Cars

Another one for the Stigs in us, Project Cars is a remarkable racing game that was entirely self funded. “Community Assisted Racing Simulator” was published by Bandai Namco in 2015 and was made to be slightly different from other racing titles. Project Cars simulates a very realistic driving experience that makes this game significantly harder than most. Former Top Gear Stig, Ben Collins, and professional racers Oliver Webb and Nicolas Hamilton all consulted with the developers during the game’s creation, ensuring that Project Cars is set apart as a racer. The game features stunning 60 fps graphics, which makes picking any one of the 74 drivable cars all the more aesthetically pleasing. Project Cars is a great reason to split screens this month, so be sure to download this title when it is available.
Project Cars will be available for download from 16 February – 15 March.

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge

Guybrush Threepwood returns in Monkey Island 2, the sequel to the November Games with Gold title, “The Secret of Monkey Island”. Published and developed by Lucasarts in 1991, this point-and-click adventure has been remade in HD and was a large commercial and critical success. With a deeper plot and darker times on the horizon, you must navigate Threepwood through a labyrinthine network of puzzles. In this sequel, you will also travel to more locations and with Island names like “Phat”, “Booty”, and “Dinky” it is easy to understand why this game was chosen for this month’s Games with Gold. The story plays out a few months after the events of the first Monkey Island, and due to circumstances unforeseen, Threepwood’s arch-nemesis, LeChuck returns as a brain-swilling zombie. As you stave off encounters with your rival, your main goal will be to find the legendary treasure, aptly named “Big Whoop”. The game also features an international house of Mojo, so it can be educational for those of you who need it.
Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge will be available for download from 1 – 15 February.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Another title released by LucasArts, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed follows the story of a young lad by the name of Starkiller. As the clandestine apprentice of the most notorious villain in the history of all universes, Starkiller gains power unimaginable through Darth Vader’s training. Fighting on massive scales, shredding foes apart with incredible combo’s and using Force lightning to toast his bread each morning, there is little that Starkiller cannot do. As Starkiller is reared to assassinate the big evil raisin (aka Emperor Palpatine), he must learn the ways of the force, and graduate from badass academy. Altogether, The Force Unleashed is a really cool addition to the Star Wars Universe, and the game I am most excited about downloading this month. Plus, you get to pull down a Star Destroyer battleship with nothing but your mitts! This epic action-adventure will be available for download from 16 – 28 February.

If you prefer actual human contact this Valentine’s Day, as opposed to these epic titles, remember that it is always best to start off a conversation with a smile:
