Awesome Games Done Quick raises record amount for charity

Twice a year a group of people with a huge amount of time on their hands gets together and puts their superpowers to use. No, I’m not talking about the Avengers. I’m talking about the amazing team from Awesome Games Done Quick, a week-long charity marathon set up to raise funds for charity. Every year since 2014 the event has managed to raise more than $1 million per marathon, but this year the total blew all of their previous records out of the water.

This years event managed a final total of $2 218 008.30 for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. In total 43418 donors pledged an average of $51.08 to the event, with the incredible generosity of T-shirt maker The Yetee giving a total of $136 000 on his own, including the biggest donation of the event of $40 000 in a single pledge. The final day alone saw over $1 million in donations coming through. In total the crew managed to complete 181 games in the week, breaking many speedrun records for games. The games they chose were varied, everything from Dark Souls III, to Spongebob Squarepants and classics like Super Contra (14 minutes 26 seconds) and the Jak and Daxter Precursor legacy in 25:35. For a full list of their games, check out the Run Index, or head over to the Games Done Quick YouTube for full vods of all of the games they played.

If you missed the chance to donate, or are interested in catching the next event they are planning the Summer Games Done Quick 2017 from July 2-9 in Minneapolis. Last year the event raised a total of $1.3 million, and this year they are again looking to raise funds for Doctors Without Borders.
